Rascarasca Health Notes
About Rascarasca Health Notes
Rascarasca Health Notes is a modest reading room for everyday health questions. It is not a clinic, a shop or a forum. It is a shelf of plain-language entries for the moments between appointments, when you want to understand a topic a little better before you act on it or before you sit down opposite a professional.
The library is written by four people who use pen names and who share one habit: they would rather explain something slowly and carefully than quickly and loudly. None of us holds a medical or dental qualification, and we never present ourselves as if we did. What we offer is patient reading, careful wording and a clear signpost whenever a question belongs with a dentist, pharmacist, midwife or doctor.
The five shelves
- Healthy & Happy collects the broader entries: how clinics share health messages, keepsakes from pregnancy, the stories adverts tell men and more.
- Smile & Teeth covers daily care for teeth, gums and dentures, and how to make dental visits feel less daunting.
- Smoke-Free Living is for adults who smoke and want to stop, and for the people who support them.
- Pregnancy & Early Days follows the run-up to birth and the tired, tender first weeks afterwards.
- Men's Wellbeing makes room for subjects many men find awkward to raise, from checkups to feelings.
How an entry is shaped
Most entries follow the same quiet pattern. They begin with the everyday situation that prompts the question, explain the background in ordinary words, offer practical steps that are safe for most people and end with the signs that mean it is time to speak to someone qualified. Tables and short lists appear where they make comparison easier, not to fill space.
We leave out doses, personal targets and anything that would require knowing your history. When a topic touches on products, such as vapes or replacement teeth, we try to describe them fairly and with their limits stated, and we never suggest that someone who does not smoke should start vaping.
What the library is not
It is not a diagnosis service, an emergency resource or a substitute for care. Our page Not a Substitute for Care explains this in more detail. If you are worried about symptoms right now, please contact a health professional or, in an emergency, your local emergency number.
Where to begin
New readers often like the Learning Path, which suggests a gentle order through the shelves. If you prefer to know who is behind the words, The Writers Behind the Notes introduces the four of us and how we divide the work. Questions, corrections and topic ideas are welcome through Say Hola.

Rascarasca Health Notes
Pen names, no titles
Four writers, five shelves
We sign with a single name each and claim no clinical qualification. What we bring is patience with sources and a liking for short, clear sentences.
Fenella
Smile & Teeth
Writes about daily mouth care and getting through the dental door, and keeps a list of the questions people feel shy asking.
Corwen
Smoke-Free Living and Men's Wellbeing
Writes for adult smokers who want to stop and for men who prefer to read up before they speak up.
Quenby
Pregnancy & Early Days
Covers the practical run-up to birth and the tired first weeks, always with a clear line to the midwife.
Gwendal
Editing and patient communication
Reads every draft before it goes up, softens anything too sure of itself and answers correction emails.
What we care about
Four commitments behind the library
They shape which subjects we choose and how each entry is written.
Steady, never shrill
Worried readers deserve steady wording, so we explain risks without dramatising them.
Support for the people around you
Partners, friends and family often need guidance too, so some entries are written for them.
Honest limits
If an answer depends on an examination, we say so and point to who can give it.
A tidy shelf
Entries are grouped, dated and revised, so the library stays easy to browse.
